Books: Gwyneth Paltrow’s My Father’s Daughter

The fabulous and thoughtful Johanne gave me Gwyneth Paltrow’s cookbook, My Father’s Daughter.

In trying to achieve my 2011 cooking goal I’ve been attempting some of the recipes.
Well – let me tell you – I am SO enjoying this cookbook!  It’s not much of a surprise that I’m working through the book in a backward kind of way – I’m starting with the dessert section first. Smart, right?

In recent weeks I made the “healthy” brownies, the thumbprint cookies, blueberry muffins, healthier blueberry muffins and the peanut butter cookies. Two thumbs up for everything so far.

  1. Lucky you! I saw this on anna and kristina’s grocery bag show…they made an amazing nicoise salad from this book. Your desert options sound great! did you have to buy a lot of new ingredients (I know she uses a lot of natural ingredients) or are they pretty easy?

I have learned about loads of new-to-me products. I’ve stocked up on barley flour, spelt flour, agave nectar & honey because these are used in a lot of the dessert recipes. I haven’t tried any of the “real food” yet but I’m looking forward to testing them out. The recipes are easy enough to follow (so far). Hey, if Gwyneth can manage, I should be able to too! The thumbprint cookies have no butter or sugar – some canola oil though. And a lot of crushed almonds. These recipes aren’t cheap!

YAY! So happy to hear you’re enjoying the book and that the recipes stand up to all the hype that comes with Gwyneth’s touch. I would love to know how the ‘healthy’ brownies came out- I’ve had brownies on the mind for a few weeks- not sure why. Maybe it’s seasonal?

The healthy brownies were pretty good. Gwyneth says they’re as healthy as brownies can get. I’ve lent the book to a friend but maybe eventually I’ll share a recipe or two with White Cabana readers!

Jordana, the little homemaker. Your desserts sound very appealing.

Would love to sample a few. A great book to give away as gifts.
